Princess Diana Was A Lifelong Learner Of Things She Gravitated Towards:

Diana was fairly shy while growing up. She was considered a poor student because she failed all of her O-levels twice.Diana also claims “I was always told by my family that I was the thick one. That I was stupid and my brother was the clever one. And I was always so conscious of that. I used to go to the head mistress crying saying I wish I wasn’t so stupid.” However, she seemed to do very well in the things she took interest in, such as music (as a pianist), dancing, ballet and being around children. She even earned an award for her ‘Outstanding Community Spirit’. Eventually a skiing injury sidelined her to miss a few months of work which put her in the path of one of her natural gifts, helping children as a nursery assistant which led to her meeting Prince Charles. She would get married into the Royal Family, but her curiosity to continuously learn about things that truly mattered to her would never stop. She often played a supportive role, for example, when her husband was at the Gulf during the Gulf war, she was visiting families in Germany, and just to make a warm welcome in Japan, she took lessons learning there language. She even learned sign language to connect and meet with deaf schools in which she also influenced 15,000 people to take sign language courses. Princess Diana began to gain a strong interest in serious health issues such as AIDS and leprosy.

She visited Mother Teresa’s Hospice in Kolkata in 1992 and the two formed a strong bond to which they would meet several times after. She was a lifelong friend of various influencers including Nelson Mandela. The South African President taught her more about the growing troubles of AIDS in Africa and the this gave Diana a massive purpose to fight against HIV/Aids. “Nothing brings me more happiness than trying to help the most vulnerable people in society. She Was A Pure Non-Conformist Who Did What She Felt Was Right In Her Heart:

When Prince Charles proposed, Diana accepted, but they held off the wedding and kept things secret until she came back from her trip to Australia with her mother. She was by no means, your typical princess who married into the Royal Family; rather she had her own firm rules. The couple omitted the word “obey” from the wedding vows, and Princess Diana accidentally screwed up Prince Charles’ full name.

“I do things differently, because I don’t go by a rule book, because I lead from the heart, not the head, and albeit that’s got me into trouble in my work, I understand that.” Due to her love of humanitarian work, she had a different relationship with the Royal Family, as the Queen often saw things differently. Although her private life was heavily bombarded with press, she wasn’t the easiest target for intrusion. She even took the paparazzi to court for invading her personal life when the they placed hidden cameras in her gym to expose her exercising in leotards.

She also received criticism for giving natural birth and for taking the baby with her on a major tour to Australia. Diana did things the way she desired, even the way she raised her sons, from choosing their names, clothes, schools and hiring her own nanny. She took them to Disney World and McDonald’s and bought them video games so they could experience a normal childhood. In fact, she even took them to the AIDS clinics and homeless shelters to get a true feel for the world around them. The Princess would also take them to school herself and made her public duties come second around her children’s timetables. She believed “I want my boys to have an understanding of people’s emotions, their insecurities, people’s distress, and their hopes and dreams.”

Diana was a powerful confident woman who did not conform to the way she was “supposed to be”. She became widely famous for breaking the stigmas and misconceptions associated with getting infected by contact with people with HIV or leprosy when she hugged a little boy who was infected. “HIV does not make people dangerous to know. You can shake their hands and give them a hug. Heaven knows they need it.” When it came to her hands on approach with charities and world issues, the Queen opposed strongly. However, Princess Diana was too passionate to let the opinions of others affect her on her bold missions. “She won’t go quietly, that’s the problem. I’ll fight to the end, because I believe that I have a role to fulfill, and I’ve got two children to bring up.” Her influence in landmine injuries even led to the signing of the Ottawa Treaty (an international banning of the landmines). Upon her death a Nobel Peace Prize was won for the campaign.

Princess Diana Cared Immensely For Others And She Was Bold And Hard Working In Her Pursuit For A Better World:

She was less of a princess and more of a humanitarian who got herself involved with grander world issues than just being a pretty face who accompanied the Prince. Every country they visited, they would meet with political leaders, however, Diana would take the opportunity to go and visit the hospitals, schools and research centres. She would be exposed to the major global issues that made a profound lasting effect on her and it gave her a major sense of purpose.

Diana was not just an observer of problems, but she was a practical solution driven woman who put matters into her own hands. Everything really began to unfold for her when she shocked the world by picking up and hugging a 7 year old boy who had AIDS. During this era, people thought HIV was a contagious disease. This led her to become the head patron and president of many hospitals, schools and charities, as well as gaining a deeper purpose in making a difference for causes such as deadly diseases, poverty, war victims mental illness, animal protection and drug abuse.

“Anywhere I see suffering, that is where I want to be, doing what I can.” She raised millions of dollars, and even carried out 191 official engagements in 1988 and 397 in 1991. “Everyone needs to be valued. Everyone has the potential to give something back if only they had the chance.”
